The Oxford Christmas Light Festival

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space height=”22px”][vc_column_text]The Christmas Light festival is back by popular demand this year, bigger and better than ever. In keeping with the spirit of Oxford this year the festival celebrates diversity and heritage.

You will be able to explore and discover some remarkable sights while the festival is on throughout central Oxford, where our serviced apartments are based. All exhibitions that are part of this festival are in public spaces, so you will be able to experience every exciting part of this event as you explore Oxford free of charge. The exhibitions are also interactive.

At the Westgate as well as being able to have your usual fantastic shopping experience, there are also two special light shows. On the plaza you will be amazed by the Wheels of Industry exhibition, featuring iconic British cars and images. At the top of the Westgate, you will find wonderful views and a giant illuminated globe. The theme of diversity which the globe represents, also continues in a specially designed sound trail, you can follow in the Westgate and beyond, telling stories about people travelling from across the globe to visit Oxford for the holidays.

It only gets more exciting in the Oxford Castle Quarter, where as well as wonderful architecture you will also find a pendulum inspired installation designed by the Travelling Light Circus.

If you are here on Friday the 17th November you will be able to see a lantern parade of 400 school children, accompanied by a brass band. You will also be able to see part of this show at the Westgate where it will end in spectacular fashion, with further music from other bands here for its finale.

If you like Festive Markets you’ll love Broad Street’s Christmas market, which is also opening on 17th November. This is another great place for Christmas shopping where you will also find seasonal food, refreshments, and local products.

Finally, you can experience a real Christmas feeling in Oxford at Gloucester Green where on the 17th, 18th and 19th of November you will find a wonderful combination of seasonal dance and choirs. Short let Oxford accommodation and holiday apartments close to the centre of the city, are ideal to be able to fully enjoy these things on your visit.
